The presidents of the five countries emphasised on Friday that the Central Asia-EU conference in Samarkand this week has demonstrated historic unity among the states in the region.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, commended the strengthening of neighbourly ties in Central Asia, stating that only a short time ago would the region’s summit with the EU not have been feasible.
Mirziyoyev made the remark during discussions between Central Asian leaders and an EU delegation headed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.
According to Mirziyoyev, “the nations in the region are expanding large-scale collaboration and cooperation, strengthening trust and good neighbourliness among themselves. According to the Uzbek president, several Central Asian nations’ borders were closed, and their connections had been “simply frozen” until recently.
Nobody could have predicted that we would soon be speaking with European leaders on behalf of our region,” he remarked.Mirziyoyev continued by saying that Europe would be a partner in the new future that Central Asia was ready for. At the first summit between the EU and these nations, a strategic alliance between the Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan was announced.
