The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ board of trustees decided on Thursday to rename the establishment in honor of both President Donald Trump and the former president. The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts is the new name of the institution, which was unanimously approved by the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees today,” center spokesperson Roma Daravi said in a statement.
“The unanimous vote acknowledges that the present Chairman prevented the institution from being physically and financially destroyed. The unwavering bipartisan support for America’s cultural hub for future generations is reflected in the new Trump Kennedy Center, she continued.
The president has often joked about referring to the performing arts facility as the “Trump Kennedy Center,” and it seems his hand-picked board has granted his wishes. The president was voted chair by a newly formed board in February.
The president expressed his admiration and amazement at the choice during a Thursday afternoon ceremony at the Oval Office.
This was an honor for me. The board is made up of the most illustrious individuals in the nation. And I was taken aback by it,” Trump remarked. One of the board’s highly esteemed members raised this issue, and the board voted unanimously.
