Days after the European Commission proposed sanctions on Israel for its ongoing military assault in Gaza, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, Amichai Chikli, told Euronews in an exclusive interview that the European Union is a “institution that tolerates two types of Jews: those willing to undermine Israel, and dead Jews.”
In response to what she described as a “man-made famine” in Gaza and “a clear attempt” by Israel to “undermine the two-state solution,” European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen announced last week during her annual State of the Union address that the EU would suspend “bilateral support” for Israel and partially suspend a trade agreement.
Earlier this week, President Ursula von der Leyen received a letter from more than 100 European rabbis warning her that “increased security provisions” were desperately needed and that Europe was facing “visceral antisemitic hate” following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led onslaught on Israel.
A shopkeeper in the German city of Flensburg earlier this week sparked a lot of uproar when he posted a sign in his storefront window that stated, “Jews are not allowed here! Nothing private. No antisemitism. I cannot tolerate you.
